At Holy Cross Care Centre we take care of the mentally challenged women above 18 years of age, and will be taken care of lifelong. It is a unit of Claudine’s organisation for Social Action (COSA) which is a charitable Trust. At present we have 16 inmates. All the sisters are involved in taking care of the inmates and each person play a great role in the life of the inmates.
Without looking for Cast, creed and religion we admit inmates in our centre. We also observe all the national and local festivals in our centre to make our inmates happy and enthusiastic as well as this will help them to show their hidden talents through organizing various celebrations and cultural programmes. During the last year we have celebrated the Environment day, Independence day, Vishu, Onam, Republic day, Christmas, Easter, Mother Foundress Day, Holy Cross Feast day etc. This brings lot of joy, love, understanding, team work and self confidence among the inmates.
This year suddenly the Orphanage Control Board, Kerala has decided Aug 26th as the “Orphan Day” in honour of St. Mother Theresa’s, on her 111 birthday in appreciation of her life and service to the humanity. So the Orphanage Control Board had asked us to have the celebration in all the welfare centres in Kerala. So we had a simple celebration with our inmates in our centre. We had Eucharistic celebration with our inmates. During Mass we prayed for them and their family members and we had made them to offer Lamb as a symbol of their life.
One of the inmate dressed up like St. Mother Teresa and they had a role play. We spoke to them about Mother Teresa’s life, service and care to the orphans and down trodden. They were very happy to hear about Mother Teresa’s life. Afternoon we have arranged special lunch them. We also organized some funs and games and distributed them prizes. It was a graceful day for the inmates as well as for all of us.
