Animated by the apostolic zeal of the Founders, the Sisters of the Cross very soon crossed the narrow boundaries of Chavanod and the parishes of the diocese of Annecy. They established themselves successively in Switzerland (1862), in India (1886), in Sri Lanka (1951), in the Congo (1958), in Tanzania (1979), in China (1983), in Nepal (1985), in Israel (1986), in Cameroon (1987), in Peru (1989), in Colombia (1998), in Kenya (2000), in USA (2002), in Uganda (2006) in Ecuador (2006). They remain open to go to every country where they may be called. Today we are present in 15 countries of the world, under 11 Provinces, 2 Delegations and 202 houses with a total number of 1420 sisters, 56 novices and 87 pre- novices.
The Superiors General since the foundation of the Congregation are Mother Claudine Echernier (1838-1869), Francoise Grandchamp (1869-1877), Louise Mermier (1878-1881 & 1888-1898), Adele Mermier (1881-1888), Louise Petijean (1898- 1908), Febronie Vuagnat (1908-1923), Louise Moynat (1923-1938), Celine Dumouline (1938-1953), Yvonne Lavorel (1953-1971), Constance Metral (1971-1983), Christiane Morand (1983-1995), Pushpam Irudayam (1995-2007) and Eugene D’ SOUZA (2007-till date).
